Acute Stroke Animal Models & CRO Services

Stroke is a major cause of death and disability worldwide, with approximate 800,000 new cases in the U.S. per year. Eighty-five percent of strokes are "ischemic," due to occlusion of a brain artery, causing death of brain tissue (infarction) supplied by that artery. Acute stroke treatments are given within a few hours after stroke onset. Such treatments include thrombolytic ("clot-busting") and tissue-sparing ("neuroprotective") agents.

NeuroVasc is highly experienced in rodent (mouse and rat) models of acute focal stroke, including suture-occlusion, Chen, Tamura, and embolic methods. These models are suitable for testing of new thrombolytic and neuroprotective strategies. Endpoints of these studies include histology (infarct volume determination) and behavioral testing.
